even marco rubio, in south florida he's huge, he's tied into that community. nationally, he's not well-known. 53% of latinos have not heard of him. his policies are outside of the latino mainstream. that's a danger in just putting an ethnic face out there. it's not going to work. >> i've heard dangerous. as political scientist, we love -- open season on vp biden will run but probably not uncontested on the democratic side. is there something specific about 2016 in terms of the rise of the tea party or the rise of diverse republicans and we ought to really be honing in on this early? >> i think when we get closer to 2016, we're going to see the fiscal fissures -- i think there are two wings of the republican party that don't agree with each other on a range of issues from climate change to immigration on a range of issues. i think we'll see those fissures come about. noticeably, there are no black contenders of the potential candidates. >> there is still a name broiling around out there. as soon as we coming, we'll stay on this issue. it's quite an interesting

rubio? >> absolutely. i mean, if hillary clinton when she ran against president obama actually won the latino vote 2 to 1. more importantly, a lot of lee tonos will remember how prosperous they were under a clinton administration versus a bush administration. not only would they definitely fall in line behind hillary clinton, but also let's not forget that latinas outvote their male counterparts. so they will be leading the charge in the polling booth in favor of hillary clinton no doubt. >> wow, i cannot wait. already licking my lips at the thought of it. thank you all. >>> next, the folks behind that hash tag fire boehner tell us who would be better than the great bronzed one. stay with us. >> if you want to find the best workers in the world, you want to find the best factories in the world, you want to build the best cars or trucks or any other product in the world, you should invest in the united states of america. this is the place to do it. hey sis, it's so great to see you. you, too!

marco rubio was for privatizing social security. he's for all the same stuff that the american people over and over again have rejected ideawise, but he can put it in a nicer package. that's what jim demint has been trying to say. >> how do you say self-deportation in spanish? >> i don't think there's a term for it. >> i won't go there. but i think to joy's point, and she makes a good one, that i think the reality for the gop right now is it's no longer about the packaging. it really is about the substance -- >> it's a center right party back to your strong point. >> exactly. it's about the substance of the argument you have to make to the american people, and we can disagree or agree on whether the country is center right or center left, but the fact of the matter is we need to be wherever the country is, that sweet spot to have that conversation. >> can i give you some advice? >> please. >> run christie. >> you got it. >> chris christie against hillary clinton would be -- >> it would be a barn burner. >> one is careful and profess

guys like mike lee, ted cruz, marco rubio, ron johnson, pat toomey and rand paul. yeah, rand paul, the man who wants to abolish virtually every government agency and restore the gold standard. with jim demint gone, i guess you could look at rand paul as the de facto leader of the tea party senators. establishment republicans, they ought to be nervous. senator lindsey graham looked like he was in a state of shock on the senate floor today. >> i met with jim demint this morning, and i, to say i was stunned is an understatement. he has always been a friend. somebody i could count on. personally, we've really enjoyed our time together. and i just -- i was stunned this morning. >> the tea party has poisoned, i think, the well of the senate and the republican ideology. the gop is so far out of the mainstream right now you can hardly recognize them from ten years ago. a new quinnipiac poll shows americans support raising taxes on the wealthy 65% to 31%. republicans, i think they're in the wilderness. they face a changing demographical situation in this country they don't

marco rubio and paul ryan both spoke at this dinner and they were -- these were speeches where they're trying to define themselves as who they are. both probably going to run in 2016. how would a rubio/ryan stack up against a hillary clinton? in a sense it sort of feels like 2008 reversed, right, except for experience would come on the democratic side with hillary and the youth and this sort of idealism might perhaps come from a rubio or ryan on the republican side? >> well, if i look at that poll you were referring to, hillary clinton is the overwhelming favorite among young people, especially young women. young people and young women, clearly they're going to help determine future elections. look, i think paul ryan and marco rubio, are trying to rebrand themselves and recast the republican party as a party of diversity and, perhaps, big ideas and a larger goalpost. i want to also say this because i have to say this as vice chair of the party. as you know, the democratic party has a large and broad base, including vice president biden, who's done terrific job in his capacity as second

you've been speaking a lot lately to senator marco rubio, had a sit-down conversation with him. i guess when you talked to him, you took another crack at that science question. clarify an answer he gave to "gq" when he was asked about the age of the earth. remember, senator rubio took a little grief, saying that he was not qualified to answer the question, calling it, quote, one of life's great mysteries. remember, i'm not a scientist, man, the whole thing. yesterday, mike, i guess you spoke to him as part of the "playbook" breakfast and you gave him a chance to explain that answer. let's listen. >> how old do you think the earth is? >> first of all, the answer i gave was trying to make the same point the president made a few years ago, and that is there is no scientific debate on the age of the earth. i mean, it's established it. pretty definitively. at least 4.5 billion years old. i was referring to a theological debate which is a pretty healthy debate. >> mike, what did you come away with talking to marco rubio yesterday? >> people in the room came away thinking that he was r

. >> marco rubio was asked about his views on same-sex marriage. let me play you what he said. here he is. >> is homosexuality a sin? >> i can tell you what faith teaches and the faith teaches it is. as a policymaker, you know, i could just tell you that i'm informed by my faith and my faith informs me in who i am as a person, but not as a way to pass judgment on people. >> okay. so rubio says his faith informs him that its a sin but he's not going to cast judgment on others. he's not going to point the finger, but can rubio fight an election in that fudge given what's happening in the country? >> well, he can run for president but i'm not sure he can be elected president in four years under that scenariscenari. my gay republican friends will tell you it's not an issue. here is the bottom line, it is an issue. it's an issue because in 2004 george bush won the presidency over john kerry on this issue. it's still an issue for gay republicans. if you think that it's not a civil right, if you think that in the last election that this issue was not debated, it was debated heatedly.
